IMO 2019: You can't decide who succeeds you, you are not God Owunna tells Okorocha

One interesting scenario that makes Nigerian General Elections interesting is that of Imo state especially Gubernatorial  and Senatorial elections. This can be seen in the recent burst in which the governor of the state stated no one above 50 will succeed him come 2019. Which did not go down well with some political stakeholders.

Hon. Greg Owuamanam, factional chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State Chapter has lampooned the Governor Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha over his recent statement that nobody over the age of 50 years will succeed him in Douglas House comes 2019 describing it as most unfortunate and intangible.
Owuamanam who stated this while interacting with Newsmen  at his Owerri residence on Monday opined that making such statement is more of arrogating to himself the powers of Almighty God who according to him only has the power to decide who governs the state after Okorocha.
“I believe that his Excellency, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha to have said that somebody above 50 years won’t governor Imo State is the most unfortunate statement I have heard in recent times. You don’t say something that is beyond you. I really know that the issue of who becomes governor of Imo State come 2019 can only be determined by one person and that is God Almighty.
“God may decide to take somebody of 30 years, he can as well take somebody of 50, 60, 70 years. But for somebody to arrogate to himself the powers of Almighty God is most unfortunate. I don’t want to begin to labour too much on that statement because I do know it doesn’t hold water.” He stated.
The former member of Imo State House of Assembly for Ihitte/Uboma State Constituency also condemned the recent alleged sacking of Local Government workers in the state stressing that where the governor failed to adhere to the laid down rules and procedures for sacking workers in the state, he is invoking the wrath of God and the entire people of the state.
“You don’t just wake up one day and begin to sack people, people you never employed. I condemn it; PDP also condemns it for the governor to wake up one morning to sack a whole lot of workers considering the current economic challenges we are facing across the country.” Owuamanam said.
On the current leadership crisis in the party, the Imo PDP Chairman availed that the best option towards resolving the issue remains political approach and not through the court adding that all party chieftains must place absolute emphasis on reviving the party instead of pursuing their personal interest.
He finally appealed to all Imolites in the face of what he described as the ill-happenings in the state to “come together and fight these atrocities that are committed by the governor. We can only achieve that if we are united. Let us forget about party differences. Let us forget about whatever thing we have. Let us speak with one voice and tell governor that what he is doing is the wrong thing.” Owuamanam admonished.
