One of the campaign promises of Governor Okorocha that earned him wide popularity amongst many voters in Imo State was the promise of FREE EDUCATION to all Imo indigenes pursuing their degree in the state University. This led to some Imo indigenes residing outside the state to rush down to Imsu with the hope of enjoying this History making gesture by the state government. While this earned him the love of the people, some stakeholders in the Education sector wondered how sustainable this policy would be considering the heavy capital outlay needed to run a university.
Well, the Governor surprised them when he came to power and immediately enacted this policy which saw indigenes schooling in the state owned University paying nothing as school fees and non-indegenes paying just 50% of the school fees.

But with the latest development in Imsu it seems that the free education by the Governor was nothing but a scam to lure voters for his election.
Speaking to elitism6.com a Final year student of the Institution who simply identified himself as Austin said the said free education has made things worse for them in his words 'There is no Free education in Imsu, since my 200 level no body mentioned anything school fees to us only for them to compile it up for us at this final year level insisting we are going to pay N20000 as school  fees  for each of those semesters  they were deceiving  us with free education and N5000 late payment fee which has accumulated   to 75000''

The student who  went further to criticize the free education policy said that the policy deceived them into thinking they are on free education not knowing that their bills will be piled up for them when they finally graduate.
The scenario is worse for non-indigenes schooling in Imsu  who our findings revealed are paying  N150,000 which spreads across the number of  semesters required of their course  and up to N180,000 for those studying more advanced courses like those in college of medicine.

Not satisfied with this findings our reporter paid a visit to the school bursary department and to make enquiries about the development and was greeted by crowd of students who queued up to tender receipts of the fee which they have already paid earlier at the designated banks.
The school PRO could not be reached to comment on the issue at the time of filling this report. But for now to most students of Imsu free education is a sham.
