Abuja - Despite being the minority party in the House of Representatives, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is planning to field a candidate for the Speaker of the House, reports Peoples Daily.
The party’s caucus in the House has been holding meetings to strategize on how the party can present a speakership candidate to checkmate the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The thinking of the party is that since there is no provision in the Constitution or House rules that says that only the ruling party should produce the Speaker of the House, the party believes it can use its members to turn the table against the APC.
The party plans to push forward a reliable and popular lawmaker who is a great bridge builder among them.
The PDP has about 140 lawmakers while the All Progressives Congress (APC) has 200 lawmakers.
APC has alleged that since Nigerian's history the majority has always occupied the speakership seat. Though it's not constitutional.
