The deaths from today’s bombing of the
Kano Central Mosque have reached at
least 100, according to the National
Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Officials of the agency also stated that they
expected the death toll to rise as more than 150
people were critically injured in the attack.
A security source told SaharaReporters this
evening that at least three bombs exploded
outside of the crowded mosque a few minutes
before the commencement of Friday’s J’umaat
prayers, the main prayer of the Islamic faith.
The source then disclosed that the militants
who had planted the explosives began to shoot
as the Muslim faithful fled in panic. The
shooting ended only after armed security agents
arrived to engage the militants, killing at least
six of them.
