Alleged Anti-Party Activities: APC to suspend Okorocha, others

Reports reaching us from close Party sources indicate that the major reason bringing the trouble to the governor is his floating a parallel state executive led by the Owerri Zonal Chairman of the party, Hon Chris Oguoma.

The action which set out to create confusion in the state was considered anti-party. The governor was faulted for taking the action in view of his full knowledge of the various Congress elections which threw up a new leadership in the state.

The source disclosed further that the governor having ran to President Muhammadu Buhari, (PMB) and approached the National Working Committee (NWC) and the Appeals Panel should have waited for the outcome of his protest before taking laws into his hand. This was adjudged to be against the spirit of sportsmanship.

The governor was also condemned for going against the advice of Chief John Oyegun, the National Chairman of APC who allegedly had earlier advised the use of due process in resolving any disagreement in the party. It was also learnt that Oyegun in one instance also advised harmonization which the governor rebuffed.

A second argument necessitating the big hammer to fall on the governor stemmed from his authorization of the sale of forms for the Local Government elections through the wrong people (the Oguoma led exco).
It was considered that the life of the party is in jeopardy as elections conducted risks being voided or nullified because it was done through wrong executives. According to the source, there is no position like Acting Chairman in the constitution of the party.

We further gathered as a third issue, that Owelle Rochas Okorocha has in the previous attempts to conduct Local Government elections sold forms twice. No election was conducted in the efforts.

This was seen as creating image problem for the Party thereby de-marketing it in the eyes of the opposition and well-meaning citizens. It is considered fraudulent as much as it makes the party a laughing stock.

Political watchers observe that given the emerging developments, the party’s chances at the polls grows dimmer as the oppositions are likely to cash in on the situation to take them to the cleaners. Some argue that the party would never be the same again by the time it has weathered the storms.
