DEATH SENTENCE ON PORT- HARCOURT RESIDENTS (Photo)

Even though, the Federal Government has declared
a State of Emergency on this dangerous
environmental situation, this has persisted and
residents of the oil rich city have continued to
inhale toxic air and bath in chemical residues that
environmentalists and health professionals believe
kill them gradually.

While nothing has been categorically blamed for
this outbreak, Port-Harcourt is known to harbour
many oil exploration firms, while gas flaring,and
other highly dangerous industrial activities go on
within and around the city.

This has being on for over one year now, and the
appropriate authorities have certainly not done
enough to arrest the situation.

The governments of Rivers State and the Federal
Government, especially, the State and Federal
Ministries of Environment should step up action to
ensure that the lives of millions of Port-Harcourt
residents are saved from further harm.
